Help for Quitters
Local Support supplement state Help Line.

Maine Tobacco HelpLine: 1-800-207-1230

A smoker is two to three times more likely to quit with help than when trying to quit on their own. The help line offers free nicotine replacement aids to people who qualify. 

Healthy Oxford Hills staff are trained to help people decide to quit and to stay quit once they have made the decision. Call to recieve our pamphlet with local tobacco resources.

Every Wednesday from 4:30 - 5:30 pm 165 Main St., Norway at Healthy Oxford Hills
(Brown house next-door to Stephens Memorial Hospital). Come and take an honest look at how smoking /nicotine is treating you.

On-Line Support

www.quitnet.com provides quitters an on-line partnership with other quitters, gives quit tips and stories that have been shared by their members, as well as other free support. They also provide on line counseling for a monthly fee.

www.lunusa.org is an on-line quit support site that leads you through quitting, step by step, through thier curriculum Freedom From Smoking.

www.whyquit.com is hosted by Joel Spitzer, an authority in the development and implementation of smoking cessation and prevention programs for over 30 years. This is the web-site to go to for motivation, education, and support for cold-turkey nicotine cessation.

Following an exuberant, energetic kick-off to the growing season which brought together 40 people at the Garden on April 25th, the Coordinating Council hired on Rocky Crockett as a half-time garden coordinator. Since that time, there has been a lot of activity, with people working more sessions every week.

* The Water Catchment work group now has 8 water barrels that can hold 400 gallons of water gathering rain water from the roof.

*The compost bins have been completed and compost is being picked up at Cafe Nomad

* Organic compost was delivered by the Caldwell Farms in Turrner.

 *Plans have been made for a new entrance to the barn, for renting a chipper to convert small brush and small trees for chips for the paths.

*The Maine Non-Profit incorporation papers came from the State and a few folks are working on the federal 501(c)3 tax exemption application.

*Ganderia Middle Schoolers are making plans for a composting toilet.

*The new raised beds are ready to plant and a new area is being prepared for raised mounds (beds without the wooden sides.

*A Welcome sign with the new logo has been installed at the street entrance. 

*Work days are on Sunday morning from 9am-12pm and  Mondays from 4pm-7pm.
