Drug-Free Workplaces
Policy and Education

Employers are in a unique position to have powerful influence on the lives of their employees.  Developing a workplace policy regarding substance use is useful in helping to educate employees about the dangers of substance abuse.  In addition, a strong policy can help cut the costs associated with lost productivity, increased medical cost, worksite injury, and impact on the community.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health states that about 75% of U.S. illicit drug users are employed either full or part-time.  Total costs related to lost productivity:  $97.4 million, represeting 16% of the total cost of substance abuse in Maine.

Please contact our prevention coordinator to discuss ways to educate and reduce substance use at your worksite.
